The Thin Veneer
A role-playing server for Conan Exiles Enhanced, set in Robert E. Howard’s Hyborian Age.

Pillars of The Thin Veneer
This server uses a handful of guiding values in its decision-making processes. Knowing these values may help you in deciding whether you’d like to join us.
Lore
The stories published by Robert E. Howard and the RPG books published by Modiphius form the foundation of our understanding of lore. We try to maintain a coherent atmosphere of the Hyborian Age, a mythological time period which contains elements from the Bronze Age up to the Early Middle Ages.
Vanilla-ish
Conan Exiles is a good game. Many servers make a lot of changes to the game to provide a customised experience, but we choose to keep things fairly simple. We employ mods for cosmetics and role-playing features, and change relatively little about the base game.
Conviviality
This whole thing is, ultimately, a game. We want to maintain an atmosphere where everyone can creatively and autonomously enjoy the community. To protect this atmosphere, we will act on behaviours that run counter to conviviality, including and especially bigotry.
Collaborative conflict
We use a system of collaborative conflict, where fights and consequences cannot be forced upon you, but where everyone is expected to engage with conflict in a cordial, communication-rich, and collaborative way.
Humanity
We think that role-playing is a human creative endeavour, and we happen to like human creativity, beautiful and ugly alike. Use of large language models or generative AI technologies is forbidden.
Documentation
As servers age, rulings are made. As these rulings pile up, they should always be documented clearly in a transparent and accessible manner. Ideally, rules contain a rationale to demystify their existence.
Sensuality
Conan and sensuality are almost intrinsically linked. Even if Howard never included overt sexual elements, it is recurring as a theme. We gladly embrace the presence of these passions, but we want to guard against prurient fixation on them.
Economy
Money is hard. As much as possible, the server is run with minimal operating costs. We’d like to keep it that way. Only when the budget becomes untenable for the population will we consider the whole mess that is accepting donation money.
