Getting started
“I’ll vanish your head from your shoulders!” snarled the infuriated Cimmerian, his saber gleaming in his hand. “Is this the welcome you give strangers? By Crom, I’ll drench these hangings in blood!”
Hello and welcome! This page contains all the information you need to get started with role-play on The Thin Veneer.
Read the community rules
Before you do anything, you should familiarise yourself with the community rules which we maintain on this server. You may also read read the server’s pillars on the home page, which can help you get a feel for the values on The Thin Veneer.
Join the Discord
To participate on The Thin Veneer, you need to join the Discord server. You needn’t do anything there yet, but you can have a look around and say hi.
Don’t hesitate to ask questions
At any subsequent stage, do not hesitate to ask for help. You can ask for help
in the #new-arrivals channel, in-game in the global chat, or in your
whitelisting ticket.
When you ask for help, please don’t ping team members. Some patience may be required.
Join the server
You may join the server at 128.127.180.72:7777. You can find the modlist and
Steam mod collection on the Server
information page. If you are new
to Conan Exiles, now is a good time to read New to Conan
Exiles.
When you join the server, you will be ‘stuck’ in a small spawn area. This is
where you can create your character’s appearance using Tot ! Custom (Shift+B).
Make a whitelisting ticket
To properly join the server and leave the spawn area, you must make a
whitelisting ticket. In the #open-a-ticket channel on Discord, open a
whitelisting ticket. Read the Whitelisting
rules, copy-paste the template on
that page, and fill in the details.
A team member will respond to your ticket as soon as possible. Please don’t ping team members unless responding to them.
Make your RPR character sheet.
You can make your Tot ! Roleplay Redux sheet via Shift+R. See also the Dice
system for further information.
Familiarise yourself with the other rules
While waiting for the whitelisting ticket to be answered, it’s a good time to read the other rules on The Thin Veneer.
Talk to the magi
Once your whitelisting ticket has been approved, you are given access to (among
other things) the #whitelisting-password channel on Discord. Copy this
password, and give it to the magi. He can be found in the tent near spawn.
Survive
After saying the password to the magi, your character is released into the desert. This is where the game and the role-play starts. Be on the look-out for ’looking for role-play’ tags, or communicate in the global chat.
You start with effectively nothing. This can be tough. Consider leaning into this, and have your character plead for assistance.
Good luck, and have fun!
