Server settings
“Barbarism is the natural state of mankind,” the borderer said, still staring somberly at the Cimmerian. “Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And barbarism must always ultimately triumph.”
While the server maintains relatively vanilla settings, some things have been adjusted to improve the experience from a role-playing perspective. This page is unlikely to be comprehensive, but it hopefully covers the most important changes.
Unmodded
The following changes are to the core game, unrelated to any installed mods.
Hunger and thirst
The rate of hunger and thirst have been drastically reduced. This mechanic would otherwise get in the way during role-play.
Day and night cycle
The cycle of day and night has been slowed down. Day should last approximately four hours. Night should last approximately three.
Sandstorm disabled
No sandstorm rages through the Exiled Lands. It causes lag, and passes by too quickly to deal with ICly.
Avatars disabled
It is not possible to summon avatars of the gods.
Stability disabled
The ‘stability’ system where ceilings and roofs need sufficient support has been disabled. Of course, you are still encouraged to add those supports for verisimilitude.
PvP and building damage
PvP is turned on, but damage to buildings is turned off.
Land claim radius
The land claim radius has been increased to prevent builds from settling too closely.
Thrall limit
For performance reasons, the amount of thralls that each clan can have is limited. It should still be relatively generous.
Building and thrall decay
Building and thrall decay have been turned on. What this concretely means is that someone in a clan needs to log in once every two months to prevent their base and thralls from deleting themselves. To prevent a building from decaying, it suffices to stand near it for a second. Thralls are prevented from deletion when any clan member logs in.
Modded
These changes relate to mods which are installed on the server.
Death
Instead of dying, your character falls prone for a while when they reach zero hit points. This makes the game a lot easier, but it makes role-play after PvP possible.
Kits for level-up and tools
You may use /kit to gain a boost to level 60, and some gathering tools to get
you started. These exist to remove to remove the most time-intensive parts of
gameplay and create a level playing field for mechanical PvP, everything else
being equal.
Use of these kits is optional.
